Wednesday Evening Bible Study โ€” 7:30pm Online

Our flagship weekly gathering. Every Wednesday from 7:30pm to 9:00pm, we run an online Bible study on Google Meet. People join from Sandton, Randburg, Fourways, Midrand, Pretoria East, and one regular who has been logging in from Cape Town since 2022.

What we study: Books of the Bible, one book at a time over 6-12 weeks. Currently working through the Parables Jesus Actually Told. In 2025 we did Exodus, John, and Psalms.

Who shows up: Roughly 15-25 people each week. Ages 19 to 60, mixed gender and ethnicity. About 60% South Africans, 20% other African countries (Zimbabwe, Nigeria, DRC, Kenya), 20% expats (US, UK, Korea, China).

How to join: Call or WhatsApp either number below. We add you to the WhatsApp group and send the Google Meet link the day of. You can keep your camera off for as long as you want. There is no expectation that you speak, pray, or commit.

Sunday Korean Class โ€” 2:00pm in Parkmore

Every Sunday afternoon, Ms. Dora teaches Korean to absolute beginners in a community room at Parkmore, Sandton. The class runs from 2:00pm to 4:00pm, with an optional 30-minute hangout for coffee and conversation afterward.

What we cover: Hangul alphabet (week 1), basic conversation, Korean culture and food. By week 8 you can introduce yourself, order at a Korean restaurant, and ask for directions.

Who shows up: 8-15 adults each week. Mostly 22-45 years old. About half are preparing for exchange/travel/work in Korea. The other half are K-drama or K-pop fans, or simply curious.

How to join: Call or WhatsApp Ms. Dora (or Mr. Sim) to confirm a seat. We supply all materials and coffee. Bring yourself and a notebook if you like taking notes.

First Saturday In-Person Bible Study โ€” 4:00pm in Parkmore

Once a month, on the first Saturday, we hold the same Bible study in person. The passage is the same one we will study the following Wednesday. People who attend get two bites at the apple, which is helpful for dense passages.

What to expect: 8-15 people in a circle, Mr. Sim or Ms. Dora teaching, tea and biscuits provided. Same format as the online study but face-to-face. End by 6:00pm sharp so you can have your Saturday evening.

Who shows up: Regulars who live nearby, people who prefer in-person, visitors from out of town. Often 1-2 new faces each month.

How to join: No booking needed. Show up at 3:50pm. Address sent via WhatsApp on request.

Sandton Sunday Service Times โ€” General Pattern

Most Sandton-area churches run a Sunday morning service between 8:00am and 11:00am. The traditional reason for the morning time is historical (people worked six days a week; Sunday was the only free day). Today's Joburg services cluster at three slots:

  • 7:00-8:30am โ€” Early service (Cathedral, traditional Anglican/Catholic)
  • 9:00-10:30am โ€” Most popular slot (most evangelical/Pentecostal/modern community)
  • 11:00am-12:30pm โ€” Second wave (larger churches offering multiple services)
  • 5:00-7:00pm โ€” Evening service (less common; some evangelical and Pentecostal)

What Is the Best Time to Visit a Johannesburg Church?

If you are a first-timer, the 9:00am Sunday slot is the safest choice for three reasons:

  1. Most churches run their largest, friendliest, best-staffed service at this time.
  2. The welcome team is fully awake.
  3. The kids' ministry is fully operational.
