Bible Study in Randburg: A Free Wednesday Group for Residents of Randburg, Ferndale, Blairgowrie and Linden
If you searched bible study randburg, you are probably one of three things: a long-time Randburg resident looking for a community that takes the Bible seriously, a new arrival to Johannesburg who landed in Randburg and is finding their feet, or someone whose faith has lapsed and is quietly looking for a way back. Why Randburg Is on Our Radar
Randburg is one of the most quietly Christian parts of Johannesburg. The suburbs of Ferndale, Blairgowrie, Linden, and Cresta are full of people who grew up in church, drifted, and are now — sometimes in their thirties or forties — wondering if they should come back. We have met dozens of them in the last ten years, and many of them now sit in our Wednesday group.
The challenge with Randburg is that it is a sprawl of suburbs. There is no obvious central church or meeting place that everyone walks to. Most people drive 10 to 20 minutes to wherever they land on a Sunday. For a weekday Bible study, that means online works better than anything else — which is why we run ours on Google Meet.
The Wednesday Evening Bible Study
Our main programme is a free Wednesday evening Bible study from 7:30pm to 9:00pm, hosted on Google Meet. About twelve to eighteen people join from across Johannesburg — Randburg, Sandton, Linden, Parkview, and further out. We open in prayer, read a passage, and discuss.
The format is unhurried. We take four to five weeks on a single chapter so we can read slowly and ask the awkward questions. Recent passages we have worked through include the Sermon on the Mount, Psalm 23, the book of Ruth, and the early chapters of Genesis.
Who Joins from Randburg
We have regulars from most Randburg suburbs. The most common are Ferndale, Blairgowrie, Linden, Cresta, Blackheath, and Emmarentia. We also have a few from Victory Park, Linden Extension, and the edges of Greenside. A handful drive in from Sundowner and Northcliff, which is technically Roodepoort but close enough.
Demographically, the Randburg contingent tends to be a bit older than the Sandton side of the group — more in their thirties to fifties, more with school-aged kids, more coming back to faith after a decade or two away. They tend to be professionals: teachers, accountants, software engineers, nurses, small-business owners.
In-Person Options in Parkmore (15 Minutes from Randburg)
For those who want to meet in person, our main hub is at Parkmore, 11th Street, Sandton. From most Randburg suburbs, the drive is about 12 to 20 minutes off-peak. We host two in-person programmes there:
- Free Korean Class — every Sunday at 2:00pm. About 90 minutes. Beginners welcome. Two dozen students from across Johannesburg attend.
- First Saturday In-Person Bible Study — once a month, on the first Saturday at 4:00pm. About 90 minutes. Smaller group than the Wednesday online session.
