Bible Study in Alberton
Bible Study in Alberton: A Free Wednesday Group for Residents of Alberton, Brackenhurst and Meyersdal
If you searched bible study alberton, you probably know that Alberton has plenty of Afrikaans and English churches but the Bible study options — small, conversational, weekday-evening — are thinner on the ground. We are trying to fill that gap, and here is how.
This page covers:
- ✓ What our Wednesday evening group is honestly like
- ✓ The Alberton suburbs we serve most
- ✓ How to join in three simple steps
- ✓ Driving directions from major Alberton suburbs to Parkmore
Why Alberton Is on Our Radar
Alberton is a tight-knit part of the East Rand with a strong church-going culture. The big Afrikaans churches (NG, Hervormde) are well represented, as are several English-speaking evangelical congregations. What is harder to find is a small, conversational Bible study that meets midweek, especially for people who want something less formal than a Sunday service.
Our Wednesday evening online Bible study is built for that gap. People from Alberton, Brackenhurst, Meyersdal, Alberante, New Redruth, and even the southern parts of Boksburg have been joining us for years. The online format works particularly well for Alberton residents because the drive into central Sandton is not trivial — 25 to 45 minutes depending on traffic and time of day.
The Wednesday Evening Bible Study
Wednesdays, 7:30pm to 9:00pm, on Google Meet. We open in prayer, read a passage, and discuss. The group has about a dozen to two dozen regulars from across Johannesburg — including a steady Alberton contingent.
The Bible study is unhurried. We work through a chapter over four to five weeks. Recent passages include Psalm 23, the book of Ruth, the Sermon on the Mount, and the early chapters of John. The tone is conversational, not academic.
Who Joins from Alberton
We have regulars from Alberton proper, plus Brackenhurst, Meyersdal, Alberante, New Redruth, and the western edges of the area near Glenvista. About a third of our Alberton regulars are Afrikaans-speaking and we accommodate that — Bible translations in Afrikaans (1933/53 or 1983) are always available.
Demographically, the Alberton group is mostly in their thirties to fifties, often with school-aged or teenage kids, often solidly churched in the past but looking for something midweek and intimate. Many are bilingual or Afrikaans-first.
In-Person Options in Parkmore
For Alberton residents who want to meet in person, our main hub is at Parkmore, 11th Street, Sandton. Off-peak driving time is 25 to 35 minutes from most Alberton suburbs. Peak traffic can stretch it to 50 minutes or more, which is why most of our Alberton members prefer the Wednesday online session.
Two in-person programmes run at Parkmore:
- Free Korean Class — Sundays at 2:00pm. About 90 minutes. Beginners welcome.
- First Saturday In-Person Bible Study — once a month, first Saturday, 4:00pm. Smaller, more conversational than the Wednesday group.
